This morning, after a nice breakfast, we went to the District Six Museum. District six is an area that lots of people got taken out of and misplaced during apartheid.
After the museum we went to SANCCOB, the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds, a sea bird rehabilitation center, whose main patients were penguins. The mission of SANCCOB is to conserve seabirds and other complementary marine species. We got a nice tour of the facility from their staff, learning about the rescue process, and other interesting things such as how they clean and feed the penguins. Although, I think I speak for everyone when I say that seeing the penguins up close was by far the best part.
Our afternoon included a scenic walk in the Kirstenbosch Botanic Gardens, and when we got back to the retreat some people played cards, while others explored the grounds. And before dinner, an almost all-choir frisbee circle took place.
In the evening, we celebrated Elise’s birthday! After dinner we had cupcakes to celebrate, and after a long rehearsal, went to bed.
